Drinkies - checks and monochrome

Heyyyyy
Another fashion-type post here so if that doesn't interest you then feel free to click away now. Or just scroll past these pointless words to look at the photos. I probably would.

Just for context: This outfit was worn on a night out in Canterbury at the beginning of October. Although I don't believe that you can only wear certain colours in particular seasons, wearing something with a hint of red made me feel very autumnal and excited for the upcoming winter months. I also lurveeee the cute pocket detailing which breaks up the pattern a bit. Very cute and very me.
The shoes I went for were a pair of contrast black and white block heels - as you can see. These are my go-to heels for a night out as they're one of the few pairs I own that don't make me want to rip off my feet towards the end of the night! They are literally the perfect height. Plus the block heel is good for balance, and we all need that once we've had a few.

That's it for now!
See y'all on the flip side.

Half a Blue Sky

Hi!
It's week 3 at uni now and I can honestly say that I'm so glad I had the courage to move here. The people here are my type of people, my room is so so nice and I love Canterbury.
However another thing that differs from last year is the fact that I actually miss home. Well, I don't miss Nottingham, I miss the people.

Living in a flat with 8 other people is great because there's always someone around (when I decide to get out of bed). There are only 3 girls in our flat -including me- so these are now my honorary sisters. We all get along so so well and the weird thing is, we all feel exactly the same way. When we moved here, we each described ourselves as 3 'single' girls but the more we talked, the more we realised that yes we are single, but we all have someone back home that we wish we could be with. Being typical girls, there have been a few occasions where we sit with a shite film on- just the 3 of us - glass of wine in hand, inhaling ice cream and chocolate just to moan about boys. The point of this is, if one of us is down, we all feel down. If one of us misses home, we all miss home.

Last year I didn't really miss home that much - which is weird to me considering that I didn't enjoy uni last year, and I love it this year! I guess listening to others talk about home and watching them leave to visit their families makes me wish I could jump in a car and go see mine. I don't make enough effort with my family and friends enough when I'm away, so I'm taking the opportunity now to write a very personal blogpost.

Mummy: I don't tell you enough how much I appreciate everything you do and have done for me. All the cooking you do, cleaning my room, paying to have my hair done, driving me around and just being there for me whenever I need you. I'm so so lucky to have a mum that encourages me to do whatever I want to do in life and that I can talk to about absolutely anything. Tell Grandad I miss walking Zoe with him, and that I might get out of bed to take her once or twice with him at Christmas. I'll phone him very soon! Can't wait to be able to cuddle up to you and the pig on the sofa when I get home. Miss you. Love you.

Daddy: I don't know if you actually read my blog but I guess I'll just force you to read this one. I don't make the effort to see you or talk to you enough as I should do, so I'm sorry about that. I'm going to try harder from now on! Thank you for being my personal taxi driver - I actually miss your annoying car journeys... listening to Classical and whatever other crap is on the radio at the time (sorry for saying crap). Spoke to Nanna on the phone today which made me happy, good to hear her sounding cheery! I should probably also tell you that I'm still following all the Forest matches here in Canterbury, so don't blame me for not saying 'COYR' at the start of a match if we lose. And no, I'm not ever going to go to Nottingham uni so get over it! Miss you. Love you.

Jack: I am so so proud of everything you have done lately. Not many people can brag about their sibling the way that I can about you. But sometimes I wish that you weren't so busy so we could see each other more often! I'll book a coach to London some time soon, so let me know when you're free! Thanks for being there for me whenever I need someone to talk to, whether it's help with something or just a chat. I miss you. Love you.

Jasmine & Sophie: I know I haven't been around that much over the past few years with moving schools then going to uni, but you two are the people that know me best. I don't think I've taken advantage of living so close to the two of you and I really wish that I could have spent more time with you this Summer. But I hope you know that if any of you ever need anything, I'm always a phone call away, even if it's just for a catch up. Miss you. Love ya.

M: Weird to think that someone I haven't been speaking to for that long really is such a big part of my life now. I literally can't go a day without speaking to you. Even if you are a Derby fan. I'm so lucky to have found someone I get along so well with and I can't wait to see you. Call me soon. Miss you!

When I'm at home I miss uni, and when I'm at uni I miss home.
But I'm very very thankful that I have half a blue sky wherever I am now.

Freshers days 3 and 5 - Foam Party and School Disco

'iya
I planned to blog freshers' week as I went along but as you can tell, that didn't work out. So now I'm sat here racking my brain because I can't actually remember what I did for the rest of the week. All I know is:
Day 3 - foam party
Day 5 -  school disco

As for day 4, 6 and 7... your guess is as good as mine.

The most helpful clubbing advice you'll ever receive:
1. Don't wear contact lenses to foam parties.
2. Do take a jacket - the cloak room is worth £1.
3. Don't leave the queue to a club to wee - you get kicked to the back.
4. Do laugh at your friend when they fall flat on their arse. But then pretend you pushed them so they still get in.
5. Don't leave the queue when you're at the front because you're fed up after 3 HOURS of waiting.
6. Do buy queue jump tickets.

That's all for now.

Freshers day 1 and 2 - Pretty in Pink

'ello
It's now my third day in Kent and I can honestly say that I love it here!
Day 1 - travelling, unpacking, prinks and... just prinks. Having already been a fresher once, it was only fair that I appointed myself to be the lucky soul on back rubbing, hair holding, sick duty (not naming any names).
Day 2 - registration, shopping trip in Canterbury, house party. Since everyone was too drunk on the first night - we started drinking at half 6 - we decided it was probably best to start drinking at a normal time this night. 9.30pm. Another bad idea. When we got to the club at, I don't know, 11pm, the queue was huge and the club was already at full capacity. So we raided a house party.

On the first night we were supposed to be getting splattered at a paint party; I didn't wear anything nice! But I loveddddd my outfit for day 2 so I thought I'd share.
Dress - Missguided
Shoes - Dorothy Perkins
Tights - Next
Necklace - New Look
Watch - Rotary
Rings - Pandora
Earrings - Dorothy Perkins
Lipstick - Yves Saint Laurent, Rouge Volupte, 9 - Pink Caress

I'll keep you posted throughout the rest of the week.
Ciao

Freshers Week

'iya

Since the majority of people going to uni will either be there now or will be in the next few weeks I thought I'd share a few of my freshers' week experiences.

The main events at my uni were bar crawls, a UV paint party and a foam party.

UV paint party: This was the first night of our freshers week events. I actually didn't drink at all on this night because of medication I was taking, and I had a really fun night! It was so entertaining watching everyone else getting drunk and being completely aware of all the idiotic dance moves they were cracking out. I couldn't look at some people in the same way again. So from experience, you can have a good night out if you're not drinking; if you don't drink then still go to the night-time events!

Bar Crawls: Ok, sober me lasted for one night. Priorities. In contrast to everything I said above, the only thing I'll say about bar crawls is - still make time for prinks! Usually bar crawls start earlier than other events but if you're stingey with money, like me, then make time for predrinks. The amount of nights I've been sober because I don't want to buy drinks is unreal!

Foam party: Don't wear shoes that you wear frequently - they will be wet for about a month. Don't breathe in foam - you will choke. Other than that these are the best nights ever.

Be prepared to hear 'DOWN IT FRESHER' and the Yaya/Kolo Toure chant around 200 times a night.
And just for the record, don't get so wasted that you go back to your fresher rep's house and throw up in their bed and all over another person's bathroom. Definitely not from personal experience.

Call Me

Hi there.

Whilst I've been sat feeling sorry for myself for the past - I don't know - month, something came to my attention: I don't call my friends enough.
Back when I was at school I knew all of my friends' house numbers by heart and would natter to them about nothing for hours. I miss that. Just being able to call someone for no reason whatsoever. Now actual voice calls have been replaced with meaningless texts which leave me with no satisfaction; I haven't actually spoken to anyone. Realisation hit me when I was sat for hours in my bed, doing nothing but checking my phone over and over again waiting for something to happen. What was I waiting for? Someone wanting to talk to me I guess. But it works both ways. Holding back from starting a conversation doesn't make sense, nobody's going to miss talking to me if I don't actually talk to them.

Humans are social creatures and I believe that we need social interaction in order to be truly happy. We all want to feel loved and needed by people in the world; I'm going to ensure that I'm the one dialing those numbers again. Mainly because I know how it feels when I receive texts that read something along the lines of
'Are you busy? Can I call you?'
and you get the dreaded feeling that something isn't right. But then you hear
'I just fancied a chat'
There's no nicer feeling than being made aware that you were on someone's mind. So instead of moping around and waiting for something when I'm feeling down, I'm going to pick up my phone and make people aware that I need to hear their voice every once and a while.

This all occurred after a phone call with my brother the other day, I realised how much a conversation can change your mood. There's something very comforting about hearing a familiar voice in your ear. You know, those people who don't need to say anything in particular - them talking is enough to cheer you up. I miss chatting away on the phone about nothing, laughing, even the silences between conversations when you don't have to say anything, you just know that somebody is there.

It's decided then: I'm going back to school. Not literally. Just my attitude towards communication.  So friends and family, be expecting a call from me.

September

Welcome to the BER months!

SeptemBER,
OctoBER etc.
(I saw that online somewhere and thought I'd rob it).

Probably nothing to do with the 'brrr' kind of weather but fitting nonetheless. As you can see below my family have already started on the bonfires...
To me, September signifies not only the transition into the colder months of the year but also new starts. Mainly because I've never not been in education so September has always just been the start of the school year for me. This September is especially exciting because I'm moving, again!

Here's 5 things I'm looking forwards to in September:

1. Freshers' week! August was pretty rubbish for me because I was working a lot and didn't go abroad because I was saving - all so I can blow every penny I've earned during freshers! I'll basically be getting drunk every night with people I hardly know for a week. It's kind of like being on holiday: you're stress free and feel like you've escaped from reality and I can't wait.

2. Winter wardrobe. I do love a pair of denim shorts and a tan, but I'm pretty excited to crack my fluffy jumpers and boots out. Winter fashion is my favourite and there's nothing I love more than being very very cozy.

3. My electric blanket. I think I finally stopped using my electric blanket in May this year and quite frankly I miss it. I feel the cold very easily so in Autumn/Winter I tend to sleep with my electric blanket on and with the quilt over my head. Yes I like being ridiculously hot.

4. Moving cities. Travelling is one of my passions but our family holidays were always abroad so I never actually saw a lot of England. So here I am moving to Canterbury when I've never been there in my life. I can't wait to experience living in the South so I can make the most of being nearer to London, seeing my brother and being near both the countryside and coast.

5. A new start. Obviously with moving universities I'm pretty much starting all over again - a new city, a new uni, lots of new friends. I can't wait to start this adventure!

Let me know in the comments if you're up to anything exciting in September.
